The Dawn of a Company

Shortly after moving to a new part of the U.S. and recently completing my MFA at the University of Oregon, fellow UO peer and friend,  Emily Leonard and I embarked on the journey of making a new dance company. With several works in tow, and the makings of a new piece derived from too much time experimenting in the kitchen, we have secured our first performance in conjunction with Somebodies Dance Theater (San Diego) in February. Transform (made up of UO Grad Alumni) is our first attempt at a potentially annual concert aiming to pull work from various parts of the states and traveling to bring art to a wide variety of communities (and perhaps selfishly, being able to see each other at least once a year).

To add to the excitement, Em and I recently applied to Brooklyn's Winter Follies 2011 Showcase, produced by Spoke The Hub Dancing, to perform excerpts from After Hours in the Parlour Room, a piece where I collaborated with cool cat composer, Sam L. Richards. In this festive event, each performance has only 5 minutes to woo the audience for a chance to be voted and chosen for 50 free hours of rehearsal space and a subsidized produced concert in their 2011 Season at Gowanus.

On the horizon is a collaboration between the fascinating and incredibly talented photographer and friend, Ari Denison. We're putting our heads together for our first official project (not including the numerous shoots we've collaborated on in the past). Stay tuned for more details on this and other projects. We're still cooking up a storm of ideas!
