somebodies dance theater (Gina and Kyle Sorensen) have set up Master classes for A.T. Moffett, David C. Horton, and myself to teach at the Academy of Performing Arts in San Diego. If you are going to be around, connect with them to sign up for a slot in the class (Check out the "Sign Up" option below each class description).

This Master Class series is hosted by somebodies dance theater and coincides with the promising performances on February 25th-26th at 7:30pm.

What's your favorite thing to wear to class?

Winter Follies 2011 at the Gowanus Art Building in Brooklyn

After applying for a spot in the 2011 Winter Follies concert with previously choreographed work, After Hours in the Parlour Room, (Alex)andra Taylor Dance has been invited to perform!

I encourage (and beg) all of you to come and support us in our first public performance. During the show, audience members vote for their favs and the lucky winners get to have a weekend of shows at Gowanus at a lowered rate and 50 hours of free rehearsal space! (Talk about sweet deal in NYC!)

So, what this means is - MARK YOUR CALENDARS! January 28th & 29th is the first look at (Alex)andra Taylor Dance in action! Come see Emily Leonard, Katie Ely, myself and all of the other performers in this exciting showcase!

In your free time...

It's comical to think that anyone has free-time. But someone has to, right? Here is a short series of clips from our last rehearsal. This is by far the worst video recording job, known to me, of incredibly raw phrase work that we are just beginning to delve into. The audio is made up of random clips I pulled from youtube when I typed in the words, "cooking show."

The Dawn of a Company

Shortly after moving to a new part of the U.S. and recently completing my MFA at the University of Oregon, fellow UO peer and friend,  Emily Leonard and I embarked on the journey of making a new dance company. With several works in tow, and the makings of a new piece derived from too much time experimenting in the kitchen, we have secured our first performance in conjunction with Somebodies Dance Theater (San Diego) in February. Transform (made up of UO Grad Alumni) is our first attempt at a potentially annual concert aiming to pull work from various parts of the states and traveling to bring art to a wide variety of communities (and perhaps selfishly, being able to see each other at least once a year).

To add to the excitement, Em and I recently applied to Brooklyn's Winter Follies 2011 Showcase, produced by Spoke The Hub Dancing, to perform excerpts from After Hours in the Parlour Room, a piece where I collaborated with cool cat composer, Sam L. Richards. In this festive event, each performance has only 5 minutes to woo the audience for a chance to be voted and chosen for 50 free hours of rehearsal space and a subsidized produced concert in their 2011 Season at Gowanus.

On the horizon is a collaboration between the fascinating and incredibly talented photographer and friend, Ari Denison. We're putting our heads together for our first official project (not including the numerous shoots we've collaborated on in the past). Stay tuned for more details on this and other projects. We're still cooking up a storm of ideas!
